Ok, maybe you could help me with a bit of a head scratcher here: Inherent Vice has it's World Premiere in New York in 35 days. It's Limited Release in 103 days and Nationwide Release in 131. So here we have a little over a month, 3 months and 4 1/2 months for release dates and no official poster or trailer. I have seen other WB films coming out even later (re: mid to late 2015) already being marketed. Why are they holding off on promoting this film? Are they even going to promote it at all? Are they planning on pushing the release dates back even farther or what? I know that it is a long shot for this film to even receive an Oscar nod, seeing that PTA and Joaquin both could care less, it seems, to obtain one and the subject matter (ie, drugs, hippies, corrupt cops, 60's - 70's era, blah blah blah...). So, why are they even releasing it in the middle of Oscar season anyway? Now I do hope that it WILL receive nominations and even win a few, but it kind of sounds like that is only daydreaming. There are people out there who have been very lucky to have already seen this film (like Kent Jones and Sue Kroll) who are talking about how fantastic and groovy this film is, but they are not giving the average film goer anything really to go on other than 3 film stills. I haven't even seen a magazine cover for this film. If it is as great as I hope it is and as how much these people in the film industry say, then it should definitely have a cover story with a huge ass pic of Doc Sportello on the cover (geez, I'd love to see a Doc Sportello centerfold in Playgirl for Christ's sake!) They should not be writing small reviews on this film in the very back of a magazine with tiny photographs! Twitter has been a buzz for months now, maybe even close to a year, with people who are getting desperate for a trailer. I'm one of them. I've read the book 4 times, listened to the audio book and, like many others, have been excited since, like, January 2013 to see this film. I just do not understand WB's marketing strategy on this one. It kind of seems like they feed us bullshit by saying this is a brilliant film, but then don't do anything to promote it. If they keep on this path, it will surely be a box office flop due to VERY POOR marketing.

The waiting is certainly frustrating for fans HippieChick! But you can bet Warner Bros. have a coldly calculated promotional plan for Inherent Vice. It's not as if they would just spend money making it and then forget to marketing it. If the movie gets very little marketing and instead attracts audiences from word of mouth then that would be through choice.
I personally think they have a date in mind. On and from that date we'll get bombarded with Inherent Vice promos ...trailers, teasers, official website, social media stuff etc.
I did like the build up Paul Thomas Anderson did for The Master though.
Anyway... doesn't look like we'll get anything this weekend, so back to waiting |

I like how you put that, Admin. I just don't understand their marketing strategy, but am really excited about the second sentence in your 3rd paragraph. I do hope we get bombarded with Inherent Vice goodies and soon! At least we should have a good idea what the movie poster looks like by the World Premiere, right? You would think, at least. Unfortunately, I will not be in attendance at the World Premiere. I had tried to save up some funds and even went so far as to sell some of my personal belongings, but still fell way short. I will have to wait, like the rest of the country for it's nationwide release in January. Patience is definitely not my strong point, especially when it comes to something I'm so passionate and excited about.

Oh baby! At least about the R rating and film content. It would seem after watching the clip above, that critics aren't even going to give Inherent Vice a fair shot. That one guy was saying negative things about the film. Its like they are killing this film before it even gets a chance to bloom, which is really sad. There hasn't been enough talk about Inherent Vice and there needs to be more positive. Im wanting to see this film badly, despite what reviews it gets. This is just very frustrating amd disappointing. They are avoiding and tip toeing around any talk or promotion of this film. What a shame. Edited by user Tuesday, September 2, 2014 7:02:20 PM(UTC)

Katherine Waterston and Sasha Pieterse Talk Inherent Vice
FILLER: Was there one actor you were especially excited to share the screen with? SP: I wanted to work with all of them, it’s such a crazy cast, but I think Joaquin. He’s brilliant; he truly is brilliant. I was just awe-struck by him.

ALTERNATIVE NATION’S 2014 FALL FILMS PREVIEWPublished On September 6, 2014 | By Paul Kneitz | Film & TV
December 12 Inherent Vice Personally, the film I’m most excited about for this fall is Inherent Vice. Based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master, There Will Be Blood), the mystery film follows drug-fueled private investigator Doc Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) in a psychedelic California noir. Anderson’s seventh film also features Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro, and many more.

I'm waiting on a Joaquin Phoenix/Martin Short/Reese Witherspoon still. So by graphic nudity, aside from Sasha Pieterse showing her butt, I wonder if it will show Joaquin in those 3 favorite scenes of mine with Penny, Luz and Shasta? Oh yeah, 4...the one with Lourdes and Motella too!

Owen Wilson talks about working w/ Paul Thomas Anderson & Joaquin Phoenix for INHERENT VICE
Ok, we’ll let it drop, reluctantly. Can you tell us about working on “Inherent Vice”?
Wilson: Oh sure, I got along great with Paul [Thomas Anderson] andJoaquin [Phoenix]. The way that Paul worked I thought was kind of unusual -- it almost seemed kind of chaotic. Very loose and I was surprised at that. I thought it was going to be very regimented. I don't know if that was just for this one or if that's typically how he works. Did Phoenix mention if it was very different from working on “The Master,” perhaps?
Wilson: Hmm, we never talked about it. But that was even there in the script. I hadn't read the book, have you? [We have] Did you like it? I thought it was very dense. This was more accessible. Yes, it is dense, though less so than others of his...it does have a pretty gonzo, chaotic vibe.
Wilson: Right, the film has a bit of a gonzo vibe too.
