Dam, I wanted Charlize Theron for Shata,  they were so hot in The Yards,  also Eva Mendes I liked for Shata as well,  oh well , hugs

We don't know that Reese is going to be Shasta, do we? She might have another role. Anyway, if she is for that role maybe we should prepare ourselves to be blown away by her portrayal. I hear she got arrested recently for drunk & feisty or something...maybe PTA will bring out her inner Shasta...?

I didn't have anyone in mind for Joaquin's leading lady so I'm just surprised rather than disappointed. They did go well together in WTL..

Aww, Kitten....I don't think Joaquin's that bothered. Yes he was fantastic.  I think Joaquin was pleased for Reese?

Seems to be some disliking of Reese Witherspoon joining Inherent Vice from the comments on the net... must be good for Joaquin to be working with Reese again, hopefully she'll prove the critics of her being cast in the film, wrong.

Looks like Inherent Vice is shaping up to be a major film that could appeal to a much more wider audience than, say, The Master or There will be blood.

Yes. Many fans liked her with Joaquin in WTL but lots of dislike for this casting. We don't know yet (do we?) which role she's playing and I think there are a lot of characters in the book, so she might not actually be Joaquin's 'leading lady'. Maybe a smaller, peripheral role?

Are there any characters in the book, Admin, which you think Reese could play? By that I mean characters which you think would suit Reese's usual acting style?

Yes, it looks that way. Maybe having the backing of a major film studio has something to do with it? Perhaps PTA (or whoever) thought it was time he directed a more mainstream film?

Hi Joy,

IMDB.com now have Reese down as playing Shasta Fay Hepworth and another female role,  Japonica Fenway, being played by Jena Malone... so i guess that's basically a done deal. They've also removed the "(rumoured)" from the actors playing roles in Inherent Vice.

Strange how it's all third party rumours though... why no official news release on the cast?

Thanks for the info, Admin.

Yes, I think it's strange too.

There's quite a backlash against Reese since her arrest incident . I wonder if opinion would be different had the arrest incident not happened? Pointless wondering, I guess, since the it did happen. Maybe we'll see a side to her acting in IV that we've not seen before too.

Btw, Reese is a very busy lady. Her imdb page lists her as currently having four films in pre-production and one film currently filming. Sounds like madness to me. How can anyone possibly prepare for 4 film roles at the same time as actually acting another?

Reese Witherspoon

EXCLUSIVE: Sean Penn In Talks For ‘Inherent Vice'

Another Hollywood big-hitter associated with Inherent Vice! The wage bill for the film is going to be ridiculous at this rate!  Warner Bros. obviously have big commercial expectations for this movie.

Also appears to be a lot of talk and rumours of Jim Carrey for the role of the infamous "Big Foot" in the movie... but could also be played by Vince Vaughn... we'll see soon i guess.

This is starting to look like a group of Joaquin's ex co-stars, too! First Reese, and now Sean Penn! He worked with Sean in the 1995 thriller U-turn! But yeah, this looks like it's shaping up to be pretty big!

I don't mind Reese that much for the role. I think people are just annoyed about the whole drink-driving thing, but I guess everyone makes mistakes. So, yeah, she seems nice apart from that one incident......and she had great chemistry with Joaquin in Walk the Line!

Joaquin said Reese would always organize him on Walk the Line and apparently, she always called him "honey" and "sweetheart" during the press tours! He even said he was like her pesky little brother! Which is funnier, because Reese is actually younger than him.

So, I'd kinda like to see them onscreen together again!

Joaquin was with Sean in IAAL too although I don't think they actually met during filming. Sean spent the entire film flying in a plane which couldn't land and writing letters to John.

Okay, who else has Joaquin worked with before? Might be a pointer to who's next to be announced as a cast member. Lol.

I was wondering if the fact there hasn't been an official announcement on the cast was a ploy to generate a buzz around the film?

Josh Brolin Added To Inherent Vice Cast

I think he'd fit the "Bigfoot" character well... certainly better than Jim Carrey as rumours were suggesting.

Definitely looking more and more like a big budget film... surely they're going to have to market it like a more mainstream film to re-coup costs instead of a limited release type of movie?

Yes, Admin, this film is beginning to look very mainstream indeed...at least compared to The Master. Maybe it'll even earn some money. Lol.

How strange...didn't they say filming started a few weeks back? And didn't JG say something about JP filming IV last week?

Oh. Okay. Maybe there's a scene in the film where Doc Sportillo watches tv & chills? Best of both worlds for Joaquin then. Lol.

In the book there is a scene where Shasta (Reese Witherspoon) is bent over Doc's (Joaquin) knee and gets a heavy spanking for all her bad ways over the years... that should be an interesting scene to perform  Spanking your old Walk the line buddy!

Is it just me, or does Reese's chin look, er, large, in that pic?

Yes Kitten, looks like a relatively unknown actress is playing Shasta.

Katherine Waterston Lands Female Lead in Inherent Vice

Looks like she's got to dye her hair blonde...

In the book, Shasta doesn't mind getting naked, so it will probably help that Katherine has at least some experience of doing that on camera for other movies: http://images.celebritymoviearchive.com/members/thumbs/b/bM8719-KatherineWaterston@TheBabysitters-2.jpg

I still think charlize Theron would have been the ideal choice.
