JP saying 'I love you River' at the 2005 Oscars?

Did anyone else notice this, he mouths the words 'I love you River' before looking at his mum? so sweet :')

I don't think that's what he says... it's definitely "I love you...[something]", but not sure of the last word(s). Maybe it was "I love you Daniel Day-Lewis"  |

I just watched it and it cant be Ann nor River because its a long word and his tongue is on the palate .. What about "I love u Miranda" ? We need to gather more intelligence here  Btw, how it's nice to c 3 legends together : Joaquin Phoenix, Heath Ledger (rip) , Philip Seymour Hoffman ... Tough to choose ya know ?! If possible ..

I know that he say's I love you, how hot it that  it is hard for me to watch when PSH wins and I was on the edge of my seat thought that Joaquin would win and nothing, so that sucked

Apparently it has been confirmed that he says 'I love you Indiana' (name of his sister Summer's first son) which would make sense, both in timing and if you read his lips.

Thanks Joaqfan ! I just found a pic of him online. He's the boy that was photographed with him and Heather's son at the park recently . I am usually not curious about those things .. It's their private life ... But I looked it up because I wasn't sure who Indiana was.. Edited by user 12 years ago

My friend and fellow JP fan (who happens to be deaf) says she is 99% sure he is saying 'i love you Indiana'- and some others in the comments box have said this too. hence the 'apparently' but now that i also look back at it, i'd agree that that is what he was saying too.
how sweet would it have been if he was actually saying 'i love you river' :')

So it hasn't been officially confirmed by Joaquin? I've looked at the video again and I still think he says "I love you.....thank you" but we can all agree to differ, can't we? Note to Joaquin: If you want to give a message to anyone, on camera, at this year's Oscars, could you please write it on a card or something?
