I look forward to it ! The only other villain Joaquin has played is Commodus in Gladiator , Right ? Taking that as a reference this looks very promising :-)

I guess Joaquin was a little bit evil in To Die For Sami?
I don't think Joaquin would normally consider this type of role, after all he apparently already turned down the role of The Hulk/Bruce Banner which went to Mark Ruffalo.
But i think there's a good chance he'll take this on because Batman is being played Ben Affleck, the brother of his best friend Casey Affleck. They'll probably both be encouraging him to give it a go!

If i was an actor I wouldn't want to play the Joker, after Heath Ledger's performance , you know . I'm sure they'll give him a substantial role as Lex Luthor, if he decides to take it. Joaquin will probably wanna make sure he likes the script .

Michael Rosenbaum Says Joaquin Phoenix Is Playing Lex Luthor In Batman vs. Superman
"Casting for Batman vs. Superman is starting to heat up and one of the most talked about roles seems to be that of Lex Luthor. Earlier today we heard that Bryan Cranston might be taking the part but not too long ago, Joaquin Phoenix’s name was also thrown into the ring. As of now, there’s no confirmation from the studio and all we can do is speculate until we hear something official. That, or ask other actors who they think will be cast in the role. That’s exactly what we decided to do earlier this week when we sat down with Michael Rosenbaum to discuss his new film Back in the Day. If you recall, Rosenbaum played Lex Luthor on television’s Smallville and is a fan favorite to reprise the role in Zack Snyder’s upcoming sequel. We asked the actor if he had any interest in playing Luthor in the film and he told us that Phoenix has already been cast."

Is Michael Rosenbaum actually saying that Joaquin has been cast in the role or is he just assuming he's been cast because he's heard the rumours? Not sure. 
Anyway, if Joaquin has taken the Lex Luthor role in this film (or any role in the film for that matter) it will be the first film with JP in it that I won't be going to the cinema to watch. If it's true, I'm sure he'll have his reasons for taking the role and I'll look forward to reading all about them, but I refuse to spend my hard-earned cash on this franchise.
Also, if it's true, it will be interesting to see how Joaquin deals with the world-wide promotions, press and premieres he'll have to do.
Oh no. Another thought has just occurred to me.....what if they produce a Lex Luthor doll/toy? Or do those promotions on cereal boxes and other such product tie-ins?  Nah...*shakes thought out of head* ...it's not that kind of film, is it?

Yeah Joy, still sounds a little wishy-washy to me. Definitely not a definite!

‘Superman-Batman’ Pushed to May 6, 2016In a statement, Warners said the decision was made to “help fully realize the vision.” Warners is still casting the film including the main villain role which sources tell Variety is still in Joaquin Phoenix’s court.

" Let's deal with Joaquin Phoenix first. Two days ago, in Variety's article regarding Batman Vs. Superman being pushed back 10 months they reported that the main villain role, "is still in Joaquin Phoenix’s court." This is twice that Variety has mentioned Phoenix for the part, yet they haven't revealed who the main villain is. Well, my source, General Napier, has informed me that Phoenix is "very close" to taking the role, and that the main villain is Lex Luthor. So, put two and two together and you have Joaquin Phoenix as Lex Luthor. "

I don't think too many Joaquin fans will be disappointed!?  I guess there is still a chance for Joaquin to play another role in the film?  |

This Joaquin fan isn't disappointed! Er, are there other roles to fill in this film? Maybe I should hold on cracking open the champagne...

I wonder what Joaquin's next movie will be then? He's officially on the "rock'n roll" at the moment... wonder if he'll take a break for a while or whether something is being lined-up behind the scenes. Any interesting movies coming up who are still looking to cast their lead? the new star wars movies maybe? |

I read they cast Jesse Eisenberg. I like him as a actor but it seems a bit strange. I think Bruce Willis would have been a better choice !

Why Warner Bros.' Superman-Batman Movie Cast a Young Lex Luthor
Looks like the official word is that Joaquin passed on the role of Lex Luthor... wonder what he'll do instead.
I'd love to see Joaquin play a cool character in a Scorsese movie!

I'd love to know Joaquin's reasons for passing up that role.
I don't know what I'd like him to do next. I know I don't want him to do any of the superhero franchises, torture-porn films or vampire films. He'll do what he wants to do anyway.
