Yes, the film does run a bit long, but it was still enjoyable. Multiple viewings are a MUST! I did not like Reese's character, Penny; or Katherine Waterston's character Shasta, either. I have an idea or two of where Thomas Pynchon MIGHT be in the film, but I'm not sure yet. Oh and it's very difficult to see where that 470ft tracking shot is. I'm still scratching my head on that one, but I have a feeling it got axed from the film.

The scene at the end of the movie where Joaquin is walking with Benicio Del Toro along the beach between the palm trees... with the Golden Fang boat on the ocean in the background maybe?

Its a weird one. I feel sorry for anyone who hasn't read the book like a zillion times coz I spent the majority of the film explaining it to my bf! He's still none the wiser lol.

Admin, you may be right. Sarahlou, I'm on my 5th time reading it and it definitely helps if you do read it before viewing the film. I'm not even going to attempt to explain it, lol.

I think the Sauncho Smilax ( Benicio Del Toro) character was under-used in the movie also and didn't come across as the same crazy character as in the book.
This is a funny part in the book from Sancho that didn't make it to the movie unfortunately

Just read this really good interview with PTA
Paul Thomas Anderson Reveals Secrets of Stoner Odyssey 'Inherent Vice'Director on adapting Pynchon and how to talk to actors
**

There aren't really any spoilers in it but he does reveal that he thinks Joaquin is the best dog he's ever had and that he gave him an omnibus collection of the 'Furry Freak Brothers' comic when he was preparing for the Doc role. Check the interview out for the full stories. Joaquin's been upgraded (or is that downgraded?) from a chimp to a dog. Lol.
I have original copies of the Furry Freak Brothers comics. Best comics ever! Aww, Fat Freddy's cat rules! Soooo funny.
** What's he done to his hair?
