It's articles like these that make me think I could probably start writing for an entertainment blog and probably do a better job too.
First, the hyperbole. Yes, the ending was worth talking about, but "losing their minds", not exactly. I remember thinking, "Did it really end?" Then getting ready for bed.
Compared to past Oscars, there weren't many who even watched it, much less waited 3 plus hours to the end.
Secondly, the writer here didn't do his research.
He's assuming that others assumed the producers knew who was going to win Best Actor, because they mixed up the traditional presentation queue. No one, except for those Price Waterhouse Accountants know who the winner is. The presenters, like Joaquin get a sealed envelope handed to them by a PW accountant before they go on stage.
Although some are saying moving the order of awards was an insult to the director who won for Nomadland, Soderbergh says he has no regrets on that decision to have Best Actor end the show. Seems like he put all his eggs in one basket.
