Hold up. The sad, sweet guy " he's pretending to be " ? Geez, NY Times. One of the reasons I loved this film so much I'd because Joaquin seemed so natural in this role - like himself. No acting required. No matter what the Times - or anyone - says , I'm sure he's sweet in real life, too.

I know Tracey. I thought that last line, underlined no less about “pretending to be sweet” was a low key diss. I’m not sure A.O. Scott meant it that way, but unless he knows Joaquin personally, he should keep his opinions about pretending to himself.🙄

Apparently, Joaquin has a reputation among journalists. But he's kind and sweet with his fans ; maybe I'm wrong, but in my opinion he really played himself in this film.

He hates interviews of all kinds and lies on talk shows constantly when he goes on them to promote his movies.. Im sure the journalists have to do with wanting to know about River and his death, and comparing them to each other. etc..
