Second week box office wasn't that strong. In other words, it didn't have "legs". It started to dip when the movie came out in China a week ago.
One of the reasons listed is lack of marketing. I have to say, I never saw one commercial for Joaquin's last 3 movies. I'll give "C'mon C'mon a pass because it was an indy, but I don't know how you can make a multi million dollar movie and just expect movie trailers to advertise. I don't even remember seeing a poster anywhere for Napoleon. When Oppenheimer came out, all I saw was commercials every week on TV.
We all know Joaquin hates promoting his films. He's actually been more reclusive recently because there was time as in Joker, he would do TV interviews. Not any more. He still does premieres (thankfully) and a couple of rare print interviews along with an occasional Podcast, but that's not always enough for potential audiences to notice.
In that case, the Director should be the one going on late night TV, or morning breakfast shows to promote. Maybe not the same star power, but someone has to do it. Scorcese makes sure his movies are marketed adequately.
